Illustrator, photographer and pattern designer, Laura Oakes trained at St Martin's College of Art, London.
She is now based in the lively East Sussex town of Rye, where her studio and gallery are fast becoming a hot-spot for desirable design on the South Coast. Laura creates collectible artworks and furnishings in which vintage style and contemporary imagery co-exist in combinations that are edgy, chic and accessible. She is fast becoming recognised for her unique style of montage - a combination of her own photography with found objects and hand-drawn imagery - with a strong emphasis on colour and pattern.
Whether a one-off customised cabinet or an item from her ready-made collection, every piece suggests a story, a narrative built up using sophisticated layers of imagery and typography that will engage, reveal and seduce. Designs are subtly playful and reward close attention as time and again new details and connections emerge.
