Rumer Godden was a British author who wrote over 60 books, including novels, short stories, and children’s books.

She took the tenancy of Lamb House in 1968 where she lived until the death of her husband in 1973. Her books ‘In this House of Brede’ (a novel about Benedictine nuns) and ‘A Kindle of Kittens’ were both set in the region.

Rumer Godden died on 8 November 1998 and her ashes were buried with those of her second husband in Rye.
